Kung Fu Panda

I think I am still dancing to Jack Black’s version of Kung Fu Fighting that was playing over the end credits of Kung Fu Panda. Unfortunately that was the best thing about the whole film. While the film wasn’t bad it was not overly entertaining, let alone endearing and charming. What animated films like Ice Age and Finding Nemo, or any Pixar film for that matter, manage to do easily is what Kung Fu Panda seems to desperately want to achieve, but ultimately falls short.

The stellar, high profile voice cast and the great animation are just not enough to make a great entertaining film. While I am sure Kung Fu Panda is a huge success with children all over the world parents, or any adults that have to watch the DVD, will be glad when it’s finally over, not just because they are treated to the best thing about the film (Jack Black’s version of Kung Fu Fighting). Other than films like Finding Nemo, Shrek and Ice Age, to name just a few, Kung Fu Panda doesn’t have interesting, quirky characters. The dialogue doesn’t reach the same quality. The humor is on a silly slapstick level aimed only at very young children. The story is very predictable even for an animated children’s film. There is hardly anything entertaining for grown-ups and/or children that are not into stupid, repetitive slapstick routines.

I was prepared for awesomeness. Unfortunately there wasn’t any. There are plenty of other animated children’s films that literally ooze with awesomeness. Don’t bother with this one.
