Hugh Jackman will host the Oscars next year

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences just disclosed the name of the host for next year’s Academy Awards ceremony. The man for the job is none other than Hugh Jackman.

First time Academy Awards host Jackman is no stranger to the awards show, having been there as a presenter. His latest film Australia, directed by fellow Australian Baz Luhrman, just opened at the box office with a disappointing performance. Next on Jackman’s lineup is Wolverine, a prequel to the successful comic-book-franchise film trilogy, to be released next year.

Jackman is not new to hosting award shows. He has served as the host of the Tony Awards ceremony and even won an Emmy for that job in 2005. The 81st Academy Awards will be presented Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the Kodak Theatre and televised in more than 200 countries worldwide.
