Righteous Kill

There is nothing extraordinary about this film other than the fact that you get Robert De Niro and Al Pacino sharing some screen time. And not just in one scene. They are playing detectives that have been partners for decades. The almost marriage like spiel between the two is what makes this film work. It’s what got me to rent it in the first place. And I wasn’t disappointed.

As for the rest of the film, characters and story are solid yet nothing new. Carla Gugino plays a fascinating fellow detective that has an affair/relationship with De Niro’s character.

The story is told quickly. The cops are looking for a serial killer and sooner or later discover it has to be one of their own. The tension rises as we discover how everyone is related to each other and who the real culprit is.

The directing and editing don’t really help in selling the point of the film, making the plot very see through by trying to send the viewer down the wrong road. This film lives of its great performances and not only fans of De Niro and Pacino will be thrilled. These two work together so well I wish we’d get to see them together more often.

Go rent it, but don’t expect too much.
