Showtime Not Buying ‘The Farm’?

According to Variety Showtime is not likely to pick up new series The Farm, the L Word spinoff by producer/director Ilene Chaiken.

“It’s understood that the pay cabler has passed on End of Steve, dark comedy produced by and starring Matthew Perry, and The Farm, an L Word spinoff from producer Ilene Chaiken.”

The 20-minute presentation for the women-in-prison drama focused on The L Word‘s Alice, played by Leisha Hailey, being welcomed into the Humboldt State Farm possibly for being convicted of killing Jenny, whose death/murder was left unresolved in the series finale of The L Word in March.

As we reported last December, Famke Janssen, Laurie Metcalfe and Oscar Nominee Melissa Leo had guest roles in the pilot presentation with a high possibility of becoming series regulars.

With several well-known actresses attached and an already established solid fanbase I would not bet on Showtime saying no to The Farm just yet. As Variety put it:

“Sources said the network is making its series picks from a total of four completed pilots. Showtime is expected to pick up one or two new series for this year. The cabler officials had no comment.”

So far it doesn’t look good, but the last word hasn’t been spoken just yet. Keep your fingers crossed.
