Will We See ‘Inglourious Basterds’ Cut To Shreds?

As we previously reported there has been news running around the internet that Quentin Tarantino will have to cut down his latest film Inglourious Basterds. After its successful screening at the Cannes Film Festival Variety reported that “…Universal…is talking to the filmmaker about returning to the editing room post-Cannes to make some trims edits that might include adding a scene, says Tarantino, who reminds that the film, at two hours 27 minutes, is well under his contractual final cut length of two hours 48 minutes.”

Now it seems these trim edits might add up to 40 minutes of screentime. According to TheWrap “…Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Inglourious Basterds’ premiered to mixed reviews at the Cannes Festival. Weinstein and coproducer Universal are both trying to convince Tarantino to cut it by 40 minutes. (It’s now 2’40”, and considered too long a sit, especially for American audiences.)”

For now I am taking the truth of that statement under consideration. One mistake jumps out in The Wrap‘s article. The Cannes cut of Inglourious Basterds was not two hours and forty minutes but instead two hours and 27 minutes, as Variety stated. Whether that points to a completely faulty article where nothing is true remains to be seen. This might be actual news or it might be a silly rumor. The wrong running time could be a typo and everything else is true. We shall keep you posted.
